No Entry in Short Dress in Ambaji temple, Surat: Authorities at Ambika Niketan Ambaji temple situated at Parle Point in Surat, Gujarat have come out with a strict dress code for devotees. They have banned the entry of people wearing half pants, skirts, minis, and middies into the temple. A notice board at the temple entry gate states that “Entry is restricted for people above 12 years wearing half pants and skirts!”
“People visiting Ambaji temple must be decently dressed. For the last year, we have been highly upset seeing youngsters entering the temple wearing indecent clothes. This is why the management decided to ban their entry,” said Chandrika Makwana, Chairman of Ambika Niketan Temple Trust.
The temple, which was built 50 years ago, attracts thousands of devotees during Navaratri as they attend ‘Aarti’ of Ambaji Mata every evening and take her blessings. More than 3,000 people visit the temple every day, but during the Navaratri festival, the number swells to over 10,000.
“In the majority of temples in South India, you will find dress codes. We have implemented the same in our temple,” said a trustee of the temple.
