The Yogi Government on Wednesday is all set to pass, one of its most important bills in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Laws Against Religious Conversion Prohibition Bill 2021 i.e. Anti Love Jihad Ordinance and three more bills will be passed.
All these bills have been laid on the table on 18 February itself. It is important to note that the Allahabad High Court is also going to hear four petitions filed against the Love Jihad bill. The UP government will present its side in the court today. In the last hearing, the government had sought time to reply to the court.
The petition has demanded the cancellation of the conversion ordinance. Also, the petition highlights that there is a possibility of misuse of the conversion law. It is important to note that the plea of the state government to hear all the petitions together has already been rejected by the Supreme Court.
After the Supreme Court rejected the application, the hearing in the High Court was started. It is alleged in the petitions that this law violates the fundamental right of a person to live with any person on his own choice and condition and to adopt a religion/creed. The state government argues that law and order and social status was being deteriorated due to forced conversion of marriage.
The state government has brought legislation to stop it. The state government has declared the conversion ordinance completely constitutional. The state government argues that the law does not violate anyone’s basic rights.
